Black Pepper Prawns

Grandma made the best pepper prawn when I was a kid. I’ve been recreating this dish with love and memories of my late grandmother. She didn’t use butter, but I like mine with just a bit of butter.

Black Pepper Prawn

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds shrimp with head on deveined
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper coarsely ground
  • 1 teaspoon sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon black soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2-3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat vegetable oil in a wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add minced garlic, stir-fry for 30 seconds.
  • Add shrimp, cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink.
  • Add sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and black pepper
  • Garnish with green onions and serve the black pepper shrimp stir fry over rice.
